About This Role

Join our research team to advance the state of NLP for African languages. You'll develop novel approaches for low-resource language processing, create multilingual models, and publish research that contributes to the global AI community.

What You'll Do

Conduct research on NLP for African languages
Develop language models and datasets for underrepresented languages
Publish research papers at top NLP conferences
Collaborate with engineering team to productionize research
Mentor research interns and junior researchers
Engage with the academic community and represent VE.KE at conferences

What We're Looking For

PhD in NLP, Computational Linguistics, or related field
Strong publication record at top venues (ACL, EMNLP, NAACL)
Expert knowledge of modern NLP architectures (Transformers, LLMs)
Experience with low-resource language processing
Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

Fluency in African languages
Experience with speech recognition or synthesis
Background in linguistics
Experience mentoring students or researchers
